Regulations on R22, January 2010:
Since January 1st 2010 the use of virgin R22 has been prohibited in the maintenance and servicing of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment due to the long lasting damage it causes to the environment and the ozone layer.
Furthermore, these regulations allow for heavy fines to be imposed on those in possession of a heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning system with a leakage of HCFC R22 Gas and current records of your systems performance must be available for inspection by an Environmental Officer. These records must be kept by a reputable RGI certified gas installer such as AMV Systems.
Complete Ban on R22, December 2014:
By the 31st of December 2014 there will be a complete ban on R22 refrigerant including reclaimed or recycled R22 and any systems operating on R22 refrigerant will be classified as ‘not serviceable’.
As this ban draws closer it may be worth considering upgrading your system. New advances in technology mean that existing pipework can be used with some new systems meaning less expense and less disruption to your premises plus with recent advances in technology, new systems are far more efficient and less energy demanding than older systems making them more financially viable.
